• Melanie Mabrey, DNP, ACNP-BC, BC-ADM, CDTC, FAANP, vice president of Clinical Practice: Dr. Mabrey developed and served as director of the inpatient endocrine nurse practitioner program at Duke University Hospital and also started an endocrine/diabetes service at Duke Regional Hospital, where she served as associate medical director and maintains current clinical practice.
• Valerie Garrett, M.D., MPH, executive director of Quality Initiatives: Dr. Garrett is a hospitalist and former medical director of Mission Health’s diabetes center, where she led an interdisciplinary team charged with standardizing and improving glycemic management across the health system.
• Jordan Messler, M.D., SFHM, executive director of Quality Initiatives: Dr. Messler is a hospitalist and former chair of the Society of Hospital Medicine’s Quality and Patient Safety Committee, where he was active in several mentoring programs, including Project BOOST and Glycemic Control.
• Paul Chidester, M.D., executive director of Quality Initiatives: Dr. Chidester is the former (retired) vice president of medical affairs at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. As the chair of Sentara Healthcare’s Glycemic Control Steering Committee, he spearheaded the system-wide standardization of glycemic protocols and directed multiple research studies.
• Mary Gaines, RN, MSN, director of Quality Initiatives: Gaines is the former director of glycemic management at Florida Hospital System (now AdventHealth Orlando), where she designed and instituted a diverse spectrum of programs to achieve best practices, resulting in improvements to glucose control, nursing workflow and patient safety.
• Betsy Kubacka, MSN, AGPCNP-BC, RDN, CDE, director of Clinical Practice: Kubacka is a former inpatient diabetes clinical coordinator for Hartford HealthCare, where she co-chaired the health system’s Endocrine Council and provided leadership on quality improvement, compliance, staff education, mentoring, and technology programs.
• Jennifer Crowe, MHA, CPHQ, ASQ-SSBB, director of Quality Improvement: Crowe is a former performance improvement manager for Palmetto Health (now Prisma Health-Midlands), where she directed multiple glycemic optimization initiatives. She is an ASQ Six Sigma Black Belt, NAHQ CPHQ certified, and experienced in Lean principles and the IHI model for improvement.
